Cristi Johnson

< Back to the Team

Cristi Johnson began her teaching career as a New York City Teaching Fellow. Early on she understood the importance of connection in the learning process; both connection to the material and connection to the educator. To foster strong connections for young people, she co-founded a mentoring/tutoring program called Hotdogs and Homework, which served youth in Harlem. The program connected each student with a volunteer mentor–a young professional in the community–and gave them a place to meet every week for homework help.

More recently, Cristi comes to us from Boston Day and Evening Academy, an alternative charter school which serves a traditionally underserved population of over-aged high school students in the greater Boston area. While there, she focused her curriculum design on topics that were interesting, meaningful, and relevant to her students. This included math units on, among others, architectural design, quilting through geometry, and financial literacy.

In her free time, Cristi enjoys running, ice cream, mountains, making quilts, and any trail she can find. Traveling the world fills her heart with joy and restores her faith in humanity and she does it as often as possible.

Cristi holds a BA in History and Japanese from Brigham Young University and a MS in Math Education from City College of New York.
