Description 

How do you prepare to give a presentation?
Create and execute a plan prior to giving a presentation to ensure that you have focused on pace, tone, intonation, posture, body language, hand gestures, and eye contact; have ensured that the technology works properly; and have adequately practiced.

Suggestions for Assessing Student Readiness to Move Forward:

  • Confer with students to gauge their level of preparedness for their multimedia presentation.
  • Ask students to use rubrics or checklists to self-assess their work and develop a plan for further revision or editing.

 

Possible Activities 
  1. Give a mini-lesson on the best ways to practice and prepare for giving a presentation, including timing yourself, doing the presentation in front of a real audience, doing your presentation in front of the mirror, and recording yourself to focus on pace, tone, intonation, posture, hand gestures, and eye contact. 

  2. Give students articles on how real presenters suggest preparing and have students work in teams to draw out and present to the group the most relevant strategies. 

  3. Have students create a preparation plan checklist in which they list and schedule in real time the various things they will do prior to giving their presentation.  See the following checklist examples
