Student Conferencing: Listening Before Teaching

COST: $365 (Early bird: $325)

One of the most effective tools for supporting struggling students is conferencing. Why? It allows us to identify both what students understand and where they have gaps. It encourages us to personalize our teaching: meeting students exactly where they are, as individuals, with scaffolds they need to accelerate their learning. It creates a caring relationship and connection, one in which feedback is more likely to be positively received. This institute will give you everything you need to begin using conferences in your classroom this fall.

This Institute is about merging the powerful and the pragmatic in our daily instructional practice. Research shows that high-quality student conferencing plays a significant role in supporting student growth. Where do we start? How do I ensure that my conversations with students are positive, constructive, and clear in purpose? How do I make the most of my precious time with individual students? Participants will:

  • Learn how to craft standard-aligned, specific, student-facing learning targets
  • Create/choose learning activities that directly align to learning targets
  • Provide effective feedback to students that is concrete, actionable, and learning target-aligned

Registration is currently closed.

We are glad you are asking! If this sounds like you, the answer is yes:

  • I need support unpacking Common Core standards into learning targets I can build a lesson on.
  • I often feel like my students complete the activities I've created, but they are not as close to achieving the learning target as I need them to be.
  • I know student conferencing is important, and I want to learn how to make the most of the time I have with individual students to support them right where they are, and help them maximize their growth.

We're excited to hear from you. Reach out to for questions or more information.
